The Chatham County Tax officials are taking steps to help people understand property revaluation before they get the big bill.
Wednesday night was their first informational meeting in Goldston, North Carolina. They told people that the revaluation notices will be sent out February 9th and explained the appeal process if residents think their property value is too high.
Many people like Charles Teague found the meeting helpful.
"I they don't listen and find out what is going on, when they get the bill their all going to be fussing when they should have come to the meeting," Teague said.
Others like Paul Price said attending the meeting doesn't help foot the bill.
"The only thing this is, is telling you it's going to happen so it doesn't ease the burden in any way just because they tell you it's going to happen," Price said.
Tax officials said they usually see about 10 percent of the property owners appeal the revaluation but because of the bad economy, they plan to see more this year.
They will hold five other informational sessions around the county in the next couple of weeks. To find out more information click here.
