It's no longer a man's world at the Habitat for Humanity construction site in Chatham County.
"It gives us a chance to show what we can do on our own," said volunteer Denise Carman.
The Women's Build Week with the organization has these women showing off their skills while giving back to those who need it most.
"It means so much for Pittsboro. We're a small town and we're helping our neighbors," Carman said.
Tracy Lynn learned first hand the importance of Habitat's work after hitting some hard financial times.
"I applied to habitat and they selected me as a family partner," Lynn said.
She will move into her house in the next few months.
When people like Lynn apply for a habitat house, they must commit to also being part of the building process.
As the area grows, Jack Heuer with Habitat for Humanity said more volunteers are needed, and they said the women's build encourages people to chip in.
"There's maybe some macho culture out here. The construction business is dominated by men, so it's important to show women they can do it," Heuer said.
With all their hard work and some good weather, the women hope to complete the project within four to nine months.
This effort is not only about the helping the community but also a bonding experience.
"I'm not living close to my mother or grandmother so this will give me a chance to be with women of all ages," Carman said.
The group expects more than 50 volunteers on Saturday.
