CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. -
Virginia Wrenn Cross, for whom Virginia Cross Elementary School in Siler City is name, has passed away, according to school officials.
School officials said in a news release that the former teacher passed away on January 27.
Cross was a third grade teacher in Chatham County Schools for her entire career.
Virginia Cross Elementary opened in October 2007. Cross greeted students as they came into their new school. Cross said the tribute was overwhelming to her.
A public viewing will be held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home on January 31 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church at 314 North Second Ave. in Siler City on February 1 at 11 a.m.
