RALEIGH, N.C. -

Residents around the Triangle are preparing for the approaching storm in different ways.

Larry’s Supermarket on Milburnie Road in Raleigh was busy Thursday afternoon; but not as busy as they think it’ll be as the storm creeps closer.

“I’m trying to prepare for Friday by ordering extra bread, and extra milk to try to met the demands of the rush,” said the market’s Mike Harris.

When the storm hits, some folks will spend it feasting, like shopper Shalarnda Gardner whose cart was loaded with items.

“We’ll fry some chicken, make a big pot of rice, string beans and corn biscuits, have a few drinks on the side and do it up,” she said.

Some airlines have begun cancelling flights Friday flights into and out of RDU in anticipation of the bad weather.

RDU Spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said those kind of flight cancellations are common because carriers want to avoid have their aircraft grounded in places they can’t fly out of because of the weather.

Maintenance crews are prepping the roads with brine solution in the hopes that it will keep things passable.

Cary Public Works director Scott Hecht said his crews started brining at 6 O’clock Thursday morning, and will continue until 1pm Friday.

At Raleigh’s Oakwood dog park some owners gave Fido some romp time before going outside becomes no fun.

“It’s been so cold lately that my dog’s, been stuck up inside the house for hours and hours,” said Dana Riebman. “It’s so nice for him to get a chance to play before it snows.”

Also getting a chance to play is the St. Aug’s girl’s softball team which was conducting a practice in the field next to the dog park.

“It feels great to get the last bit of warm sun before the snow comes,’’ explained pitching coach Alyce Wesley.

And with the snow and ice comes power outages.

That’s why some folks like Raleigh resident John Storey arrived at his local gas station with several fuel containers in the bed of his pick-up truck.

“I’m getting gas for the generator at my house,” he explained.

John said he wasn’t really concerned about accumulation predictions saying, “When we wake up Saturday, we’ll see what we have; and hopefully we’ll be prepared.”
