WEST SIDE STORY is the centerpiece of the Cape Fear Regional Theatre season, in conjunction with musicians from the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Cape Fear Regional Theatre will present this year's American Classic Theatre Series Production. This production is a four-week run for CFRT audiences to include special school performances for the 11th grade Cumberland County students at no charge to them.

The world's greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Broadway musical that is one of the theatre's finest accomplishments. Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the "American" Jets and the "Puerto Rican" Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time.

Audition Requirements: Auditionees must prepare a 16 bar song selection. Piano accompaniment will be provided. CD player also provided. Wear dance shoes, no flip-flops or high-heeled shoes(exception-dance shoes with heels allowed), dance audition may include ballet, no tap. Auditionees may be asked to read.

All roles are available at this time and include:
Maria (Legit Soprano to high C) 16-25 to play early 20's - beautiful, younger sister of Bernardo who has recently arrived from Puerto Rico. She is excited and enthusiastic, yet obedient.
Tony (Tenor to B flat) 16-25 to play early 20's - The best friend of Riff and former Jet leader who has turned to an honest life. He is good-looking, self assured, and passionate.
Anita (Mezzo F below C to D5) 16-30 to play early 20's - Bernardo's intelligent, flashy, and very sexy girlfriend.
Riff (Tenor to F) 16-30 to play early 20's - The intelligent yet intense current leader of the Jets.
Bernardo (Baritone to E) 16-30 to play early 20's - Maria's older brother who is the leader of the Sharks. On the surface, seemingly cool character, but inside, he is filled with passion and anger.
Anybodys (open) 15-25 to play late teens to early 20's- A tomboy who desperately wants to be a Jet.
Baby John (Baritone F4 to F5) 15-25 A Jet. The youngest member and very impressionable.
The Jets - Action, A-Rab, Diesel, Big Deal, & Jee-Tar 15-30 to play early 20's
The Jets' Girls - Graziella, Velma, Minnie, Clarice, & Pauline 15-30 to play early 20's
Chino (open) 15-25 Maria's quiet, intense, and angry suitor that she eventually rejects for Tony.
The Sharks - Pepe, Indio, Luis, Anxious, Juano, Toro, & Moose 15-30 to play early 20's
Rosalia (Mezzo A3 to D5) 15-30 to play early 20's - A Shark girl who misses Puerto Rico
Consuelo (Mezzo C4 to F5) 15-30 to play early 20's - A Shark girl who wants to be an American
The Shark's Girls - Teresita, Francisca, Estella, Margarita 15-30 to play early 20's

ADULTS
Doc - 40-60 The fatherly owner of the drugstore where the Sharks and Jets hang out.
Detective Shrank - 40-60 A ruthless, sarcastic, plain clothes detective.
Officer Krupke - 26-45 A large goon-like police officer who is the butt of the Jet's jokes.
Gladhand- 30-55 The fidgety chaperone at the dance.
