The tragic death of cycling safety advocate Bruce Rosar, 56, is encouraging the cycling community to make a change for the better.

Rosar was struck by a car on July 11 and died as a result of his injuries.
A local group of cyclists said in order to improve safety on the roads they must start with cyclists themselves. Cyclists Dwayne Allen, Todd Spain and Cid Cardoso said they have three words for bike riders.
Predictability.
"We want them to ride with predictability, so motorist can anticipate what they are going to do," Allen said.
Consistency.
"We really want to create a consistent behavior within the group rides," Spain said.
And most importantly, safety.
"The group rides are not five to six people, they're 40 to 50 so we want them to continue to grow but also continue to be safe," Cardoso said.
The cyclists started an initiative that they're calling The Peloton Project. They said the first step is education. They're passing out information about group rides to cyclists, group leaders and bike stores.
"Every cyclist has the obligation to do the right thing...then we're going to work with law enforcement to make sure everyone is following the rules. Lastly, we'd like to have an informational campaign for motorist," Spain said.
Allen said their main goal is to improve the driving habits of everyone, making it safer for cyclists and motorist to share the road and easier for law enforcement to patrol it. Gina Chain said she will join in the fight.
"It's important for the safety of everyone. I think cyclists need to abide by the laws but the cars also need to be caution of us," Chain said.

Glad to see this topic covered. But please get yourself a proof reader!! '...the cars also need to be caution of us"?! Jaclyn, is English a second language for you? "We want them to ride with predictability, so motorist can anticipate what they are going to do," Allen said. "...we'd like to have and informational campaign for motorist" Which motorist would that be?

It is good to see cyclists understand they can be there own worst enemy. Large group rides along major roadways at peak traffic times is not only a safety concern its a question of good common sence.Cyclist need to obey all traffic laws not just the ones that suit them.50 riders on kildare at the same time makes no sence.
