A Chatham County pastor has been charged with embezzlement after a three-month long investigation by the sheriff's office.
Johnnie Ray Lewis, 55, of Bear Creek was arrested Thursday for allegedly misappropriating more than $22,000 of church money for a cabinet project. According to investigators, Lewis was employed as a pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Siler City.
Lewis was arrested without incident and was released under a $3,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 14.
