If it feels like recommendations on preventing and treating H1N1 flu are changing daily, that's because they are. Dr. Peter Morris, medical director of Wake Co. Human Services, said changing recommendations may be frustrating to the average person, but they are actually good news.
"The recommendations do change," he said. "Changing recommendations for one dose of vaccine for children over 10 and adults instead of two, for example, means that we know a lot, even if we aren't certain just how this flu season will progress."
Morris said the decision to stop using antiviral drugs like Tamiflu and Relenza unless patients have serious complications is another change since the flu first appeared last spring.
"People should be confident that we're making these decisions based on science and experience," he said. "If the science and experience change, we'll change."
