CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. -

An affordable housing development comes to Chatham County.

It's a mobile home park, Nascar style.

"Wheels Estates is a unique brand of affordable housing, it's half mobile home park and half motor sports theme park," Wheels Estates Marketing Officer Rich George said.

There are race car numbers painted on the side and residents like Porfiria Rodriguez said the inside is unlike any mobile home.

"When I checked the inside, oh My God, I said this is for me," Rodriguez said.

"It's got hardwood floors, high end wall paper and new kitchens with granite countertops," George said.

In the future, developer will also build up the area surrounding the mobile homes with the same theme, providing a "Fan Clubhouse", a "Fast FunZone" for kids and more.

"It will be a gated community with a Christmas tree like at a drag stop when you enter there will be a gas can like in Nascar, where you place your thumb to enter," George said.

But what impresses the residents the most is the rent which is $500 a month for the first year.

Resident Kayla Heath said price is a factor in these hard economic times.

"It's nice to know you have something you can afford and come home to and you know the next month you still will be able to make the rent," Heath said.

Then, residents can make the house their home.

"At the end of that year, if we like them and they like us, they have the option to buy."

And for about $20,000 residents can get one of these homes while still keeping their keep their budget on track.

Wheels Estates is a private company and there is no government money involved.

The group also is building a similar development in Cumberland County.

In response to the first five comments, Wheels Estates is...certainly unique and family-friendly...located in Siler City...NOT running any busses to or from any border, but does welcome all responsible residents regardless of their background...investing signifant money in the homes because we do care about our renters...available at regeorge58@windstream.net

Beautiful home.Do the owners do the work themseves or do they have contractors come in and do it.If they get contractors to do it,the contractors need to be on television. How do we contact Mr.George about the homes or the contractors that do the work.

LOOKS AS THOUGH THEY PUT ALOT OF MONEY IN THEIR HOMES.THE OWNERS MUST REALLY CARE ABOUT THEIR RENTERS.
