Real Estate Developer Turns Economic Downturn into Opportunity to Revisit Restaurant Industry Roots with Cary's RallyPoint Sport Grill
Plans to continue the busy opening pace with the restaurant and bar's very first Halloween bash
Cary, NC—Drew Schenck has announced the recent opening and growth of Cary's newest neighborhood sports bar and grill that is quickly becoming a local favorite for after-work, game day, and live music crowds.
The casual, sports-geared grill and bar, which opened its doors this summer in Cary, NC, has already earned itself a few nominations to Cary Magazine's Maggy Awards, currently being voted on by local readers, and shows no signs of slowing down in attracting new fans each week.
One of the things that makes the RallyPoint concept particularly exciting for its owner is that it marks the return of Schenck to his restaurant industry roots. As a real estate developer, dealing with the impact of the economic downturn, Schenck saw the opportunity to head back into the restaurant industry as sign of more enjoyable times to come.
"I opened my first restaurant, Remington Grill, during a recession, too", recalls Schenck. "It was a valuable experience in learning how to make a restaurant concept profitable and it's something I'm looking forward to doing again with RallyPoint."
Aside from repeating some of the ingredients that made Remington Grill a success, Schenck is employing some new tactics, too with RallyPoint. "One of the biggest things I immediately noticed when things first started getting rolling with RallyPoint was how much of impact the smoky atmosphere has on you when you're here from 9am until 11pm—7 days a week", says Schenck. "That's why we've gone to a patio-only smoking concept, way before the state-mandated rules go into effect in 2010. And our customers are really responding well to it—we're creating an environment that folks just enjoy being in."
In addition to creating an inviting, casual atmosphere, Schenck has jumped right in with some of the bigger attractions that many restaurant owners wait to add until after they really get their feet planted. RallyPoint recently held a live music fundraiser event for the Boy Scouts of America Occoneechee Council (http://www.ocscouts.org/home.html), raising over $1,000.00 for the council's programming and events with the Mind the Gap band (http://www.mindthegapband.org/).
The restaurateur is hoping to carry his early successes clear through the fall season with a jammed-packed schedule including a high-energy Halloween Bash, that doesn't require a trek downtown or to any of North Carolina's well-known college town Halloween celebrations.
The fully-loaded Halloween party will be held this upcoming Saturday—October 31st, when RallyPoint will be welcoming local favorite Crush (http://www.crushband.net/)—a party band known for drawing large crowds and keeping them entertained for hours. Alongside the local favorite band, RallyPoint is also featuring a host of enticing drink specials and a pretty sizable giveaway. $5.00 "Screamsicle Bombs" are the featured drink special for the party—a festive blend of orange-flavored Monster energy drink and vanilla vodka. For those who like to dress up for the holiday, the restaurant and bar is giving away a trip for two to the Bahamas for the crowd-voted best costume. Participants must arrive to RallyPoint by 10pm to register for the contest.
