Raleigh, N.C. -- Ron McCoury on mandolin, Rob McCoury on banjo, Jason Carter on fiddle, and Alan Bartram on bass, with featured guests on guitar and vocals, is the latest incarnation of the most awarded band in the history of bluegrass -The Del McCoury Band. Known for their individual prowess on their instruments and their rapidly expanding reputation as collaborators with the members of numerous musical icons from Vince Gill to the Allman Brothers and Phish, this touring unit blends the best of the Appalachian tradition with the improvisational magic of jazz. Unique live collaborations are the hallmark of their performances, and their unique sound is coming to Raleigh on Friday, November 13 as part of the PineCone's Down Home Concert Series. The McCoury brothers are the sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury and outstanding musicians in their own right. Collectively, the band has won more than 40 awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), including nine for Entertainer of the Year (2004, 2003, 2002, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, 1994), two for Instrumental Group of the Year (1997, 1996), Recorded Event of the Year (1991), Instrumental Album of the Year (1996), Album of the Year (2004 - It's Just the Night, 1994 - A Deeper Shade of Blue), and Song of the Year for "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" (2002). Ron McCoury has been named the IBMA's Mandolin Player of the Year eight times; Carter has won honors as the IBMA's Fiddle Player of the Year three times.
As a special last-minute surprise, Jeff White, who played guitar with Alison Krauss for many years, will join The Travelin' McCourys for this show! In addition to his time touring with Krauss, White has also toured and recorded with Vince Gill, Patty Lovelesss, Tim O'Brien, and The Cheiftains. He also has two solo albums to his credit from Rounder Records.
“The Bluegrass Journal” recently reported that Del McCoury & McCoury Music made an official announcement during the IBMA World of Bluegrass convention on Monday, September 28, that it has appointed a Board of Directors. Both Ronnie and Rob McCoury have been named to the Board, which will be responsible for positioning the company as the lynch-pin of the expanding enterprises centered around the award-winning Del McCoury family. Other new board members include Del McCoury and his wife Jean, and long-time associate Chris Harris. Harris will also oversee the creation of a new, dedicated office and staff responsible for managing all of the McCourys' various businesses.
The Del McCoury Band's latest album, "Family Circle," was released last month through Sony RED distribution.
