On Tuesday, November 17, from 5-11 p.m., Fat Daddy's Bar & Grill on Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh will join the fight against Batten disease by hosting a charity night in support of a North Carolina-based nonprofit, Taylor's Tale. Taylor's Tale provides financial support for Batten disease research and promotes awareness of the disease. If customers mention Taylor's Tale when placing their order, the restaurant will donate 10% of the purchase proceeds to the charity. Funds raised will support three research projects at major institutions, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in 2009-2010
Batten disease is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder that strikes infants and children. It causes blindness, seizures and cognitive and motor impairment, and at this time, there is no cure.
Taylor's Tale is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in honor of Charlotte's Taylor King, who is 11 years old and has the disease. Taylor has a strong connection to Raleigh; her mother is a Raleigh native, and many of her relatives and family friends still live in the area. And, like Taylor, a number of children in Raleigh and the surrounding area are fighting their own battles against Batten disease.
