About a dozen fire units have put out an apartment fire in the 3500 block of Mayfair St. in Durham.
Flames broke out at the Royal Oaks Apartments at 6 a.m. and ten aparment units were damaged, according to Durham Fire Chief Barry Yeargan.
Everyone in the apartment got out safely. One firefighter suffered minor injuries when he fell through a floor and into a basement. No one else was injured.
The American Red Cross is helping 18 residents who have been displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
